Viran Toor, BDS, DDS, MDSc

Viran, as he is known to his staff and adult patients, obtained his dental degree in India where he was awarded a gold medal from the president of the country after being declared the best graduate. He immigrated to Edmonton, Canada, and with a M.H. Garvin Scholarship was awarded his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1974. The first six years of his dental career were limited to treating children and teaching at the University of Alberta.

From one of his continuing education courses in orthodontics, Dr. Toor realized the changes that could be made to a growing face. He then applied and was accepted into a three-year master’s degree program at the University of Connecticut. Here, he received the Unitek award for the best graduate in the clinical and research part of the program. For the next 14 years, he practiced orthodontics in the Toronto area, but his heart was set on Lake Huron, which is famous for the second best sunsets in the world. He now calls Port Elgin his home, where he has had an exclusive practice in orthodontics since 2001.

Dr. Toor has taught numerous continuing education seminars to both dentists and orthodontists. A major part of this education involved certifying dentists in the use of Invisalign® in their practices for simple cases. Invisalign has become a big part of Dr. Toor’s practice and he continues to treat more challenging cases that once could only be treated by conventional braces. In 2022, because of the 25 years of treating many difficult cases of Invisalign, he was recognized as the "Top 1% Diamond Plus Invisalign Provider." Also in 2022, he and his staff attended a three-day seminar on the custom, prescription-based, ceramic LightForce™ brackets, which both he and his team embraced because of the quicker and more predictable tooth movements, as compared to the old school stock brackets where one size fits all.

Dr. Toor lives life to the fullest and is constantly looking for new challenges. He practices yoga every morning, writes songs, and travels the world on his motorcycle. He also obtained his private pilot's license in 2005 which enabled him to fly to the world's busiest airport in Oshkosh, famous for three planes landing at the same time on the same runway. Dr. Toor loves to play golf and enjoys the companionship of his wife, Amrit, whom he married in 1979. They have two grown children, Yasmine and Zorav, and a little cotton puppy, Fonzie, who in his earlier years was the office mascot. He also has three beautiful grandchildren who lovingly call him “Nanu".
